$70,000 safety scholarship on offer

New researcher pursuing a higher degree and interested in workplace health and safety are encouraged to apply for SafeWork SA’s WHS Supplementary Scholarships.

“In order to help increase awareness and build knowledge of workplace safety, we have $70,000 in funding available this year for researchers pursuing a Higher Degree by Research,” said Bryan Russell, Executive Director, SafeWork SA.

“The research must be aimed at preventing work injuries, diseases and fatalities, in support of Target 21 of South Australia’s Strategic Plan– a 50 per cent reduction in workplace injury from 2012 to 2022,” Mr Russell said.

The most recent PhD students awarded the WHS Supplementary Scholarships from SafeWork SA are undertaking valuable research across a range of areas, including:

* The mental and physical wellbeing of Australian workers in non-permanent work, such as casual, contract, self-employment or temporary employment (University of Adelaide);
* Preventing mental disorder injuries in the community services industry (University of South Australia)
* The safety climate and safety performance in the health care industry (University of South Australia).

Higher degree students may apply for a WHS Supplementary Scholarship valued at $10,000 per year for the duration of the research studies.

More information is available on the SafeWork SA website www.safework.sa.gov.au. Applications must be received by Friday, 8 November 2013.
