73 Aussies killed on the job since January, including eight miners

A total of 73 Australian workers have been killed while at work since the beginning of this year, according to latest Safe Work Australia figures.

As at 19 June 2015, the transport, postal and warehousing workplaces had recorded the highest number of fatalities with 23 people killed at work.

The agriculture, forestry and fishing workplaces have recorded 15 fatalities while the construction industry has so far recorded 8 fatalities.

The figures show eight miners have died on the job in 2015.

Last year, the transport, postal and warehousing industry had the highest number of workplace fatalities (48) while in 2013, the industry had 51 fatalities.

As at 19 June 2015, manufacturing, administrative and support services, electricity, gas, water and waste services and other services workplaces had each recorded three fatalities.

The arts and recreation services, accommodation and food services, and retail trade workplace had two fatalities each, while education and training had one fatality.
