Volunteer firefighters were called in to control a bushfire at Fortescue’s Christmas Creek mine in the Pilbara last Thursday night.
According to The West Australian the fire was sparked by a lightning strike, a common occurance in the area this time of year.
A Fortescue spokesperson told the West Australian that the response team quickly brought the situation under control and “…there was no threat to people, property or operations.”
A Department of Fire and Emergency Services spokesman said volunteer firefighters from Newman and Marble Bar were sent to the site.
