Bushfire Implications For Mining In WA

As a bushfire WATCH and ACT alert remains current for residents of eastern Baldivis in the City of Rockingham in Western Australia, the state’s Department of Mines and Petroleum has reissued its Mines Safety Bulletin No.90.

The WATCH and ACT also remains for people in the area east of Eighty Road, south of Sixty Eight Road, west of the Freeway and north of Stakehill Road.

The bulletin focuses on fire bans and the implications for mine sites, including bush fire legislation and the practical application for mining operations.

Practical activities that may be affected by a total fire ban include the the clearing of bush for pre-stripping operations, exploration drilling operations and repairs to equipment in vegetated areas that involve “hot work”.

The bulletin highlights that exemptions can be applied for, but in order to ensure the best outcome for all there a rules that must be followed.
