A diversified services company is facing a near $2 million workplace accident lawsuit in Central Queensland.

A young boilermaker is suing contractor UGL Operations and Maintenance after suffering a fall at Idemitsu Australia’s Ensham Coal Mine, 40km northeast of Emerald.

Dale Cameron Goody claims in June 2010 he tripped on a wire feeder placed on the workshop floor behind him, losing his grip on an L-shaped piece of steel he had just cut and fell heavily to the ground.

In a statement of claim submitted to the Supreme Court of Rockhampton, the 27-year-old alleges the incident caused his ankle to fracture. Three surgical procedures later he continues to suffer pain, rendering him medically unfit to continue working as a boilermaker – even though he had only recently completed his apprenticeship at the time of the accident.

Goody is claiming damages of $1,987,899.93 including loss of future income and anticipated medical expenses.
