Focus on safety at Exploration Industry Forum

The Department of Mines and Petroleum will hold the first Exploration Industry Forum on Friday, June 26, at the University Club of Western Australia.

The forum will focus on worker safety and environmental protection and will also offer expert information and advice for industry, according to Mines Safety Director and State Mining Engineer Andrew Chaplyn.

“Our safety and environmental professionals will be providing important information and guidance for people involved in mineral exploration in Western Australia,” Mr Chaplyn said.

“This includes information on safety and environmental performance and reporting, safety management plans and the Mining Rehabilitation Fund.”

Mines and Petroleum Minister Bill Marmion said the Exploration Industry Forum was part of the State Government’s contribution to efforts towards environmental protection and workers’ safety in the Western Australia exploration industry.

“Western Australia’s resources industry continues to be one of the most important economic and employment drivers across the State,” Mr Marmion said.

“This is why the government continues to invest in programs such as the Exploration Incentive Scheme, red tape reduction, and safety and environmental reforms.

“I encourage industry to participate in events such as the Exploration Industry Forum to help ensure exploration continues to be safe and environmentally responsible.”

The forum replaces the Exploration Safety Roadshow, which ran for seven years.
