Get ready for Safe Work Australia Month this October

Safe Work Australia Month (safety month) will be happening once again this October across Australia. Safety month is an annual event that aims to encourage all Australians to concentrate on workplace health and safety to reduce death, injury and disease.

Safety month will be held during the month of October but each state and territory will also have their own safety celebrations. Key dates differ slightly from sate-to-state so see the details for your state and territory.

The theme for 2014 safety month is Work Safe. Home Safe which reminds us that the most important reason for making our workplace safe, is not at work at all.

Here are three key ways you can get involved in safety month.

1. Australian Strategy Virtual Seminar Series
   The Australian Strategy Virtual Seminar Series (VSS) is a free online event that will feature live interactive panels and video presentations by Safe Work Australia Members, business leaders, academics and work health and safety experts. Held throughout October, the VSS will showcase the latest work health and safety thinking, developments, innovations and research supporting the Australian Strategy vision: healthy safe and productive working lives. Find out more.
2. Safety Ambassador program
   The Safety Ambassador program is still one of the best ways to get involved in safety month. Help us reach our target of 1000 Safety Ambassadors by registering to become a Safety Ambassador again this year! The registration page will open from early September on the Safe Work Australia website. Once registered, you will receive exclusive access to an online resource kit to help you plan and carry out safety activities in your workplace.
3. Work health and safety events and safety month app
   Work health and safety regulators in each state and territory have organised a range of events throughout October that you can attend—most of which are free! The Safe Work Australia Safety Month app will give you the complete list of all these events, as well as a range of other handy safety month information. The app is free to download from the Apple app store orGoogle Play.
