South Australian researchers as well as work health and safety innovators can now apply for SafeWork SA’s WHS Commissioned Research and Innovation Practice Grants to reverse the trend of work-related injury and illness.
“Best practice innovation and high quality research is imperative to developing and expanding work health and safety practice and knowledge in South Australia,” said Bryan Russell, Executive Director of SafeWork SA.
“Developing practical solutions to reduce work injury and disease for the benefit of working South Australians, their families, their employers, the community and the economy will deliver long term benefits for the State.”
“While South Australia has outperformed other states and territories in reducing incidents and injuries there is no room for complacency, last financial year alone around 20 000 people were injured at work and tragically 14 South Australians died on the job,” he said.
“Reducing the tragic impact felt across our community from work-related injury and death is vital.”
The commissioned research grants enable researchers to undertake applied research to prevent workplace injury and illness in South Australia while the innovation practice grants, open to South Australian organisations with workplace safety responsibilities, fund the development and delivery of pioneering safety practices for South Australian workplaces.
An information session for people interested in applying for funding will be held on Tuesday 18 November 2014 with applications due before Friday 16 January 2015.
