High-Tech response to mine safety

Safety In Action will offer safety managers safety solutions that go well beyond personal protective equipment and high-tech automation.

Visitors will have the opportunity to discover the most comprehensive range of products and services and to network and learn from industry experts through a number of live product demonstration areas, masterclasses, seminars and category feature areas.

Melbourne Materials Handling will cover several management disciplines including warehouse and operations, site management, production and maintenance, and equipment operations.

It will give visitors the chance to stay up to date with products and services including automatic identification, bulk handling, conveying equipment and accessories, waste management, listing equipment, logistics and supply chain technology, packaging and equipment, and storage and warehousing.

Power distribution
Bosbox, with the mining industry its biggest market, will feature at its stand a new, tough 63A poly model as part of an expanded range of wall-mounted power distribution modules ideal for workshop or generator sets.

These heavy-duty powerhouses have IP66 rated enclosures and are available in standard configuration or customisable to requirements. Bosbox, an Australian-owned company, can also build special plugs, sockets switches at short notice.

Flexible Drive Agencies (FDA) is known for its broad range of mechanical and electromechanical products with applications across every key industry sector including mining, automotive, industrial, marine, agriculture and defence.

Headquartered in Melbourne, FDA has branches in all mainland capitals.
On display at the show will be GO Light 360 degree revolving remote control lighting; Honeywell wireless remote switching systems; ECCO LED quality and robust work lamps; low-speed vehicle warning systems; load restraint products for taut liners; chain ratchet binders; ute, truck and tray restraint systems; and manual remote valve actuator systems for oil, gas and sewage.

Gas cylinder security
The need for convenience and ease of access to high-pressure gas cylinders often contends with that for safe, reliable and secure storage in the workplace.

To meet these constraints, VISIONSafe has recently added the Australian-made Bottlechock, a unique cylinder restraint system to keep cylinders secure and protect staff, and valuable gauges and equipment. The clamp maintains full contact to restrict horizontal and vertical movement, and holds different cylinder diameters.

Bottlechock is available in kits that can hold from one to four cylinders in separate, individual chocks in a single bracket for use in a ute or industrial workplace.

The above is just an initial sampling of what will be exhibited at Safety in Action and Melbourne Materials Handling.

The shows will have products and services of interest to managers in warehousing, logistics, site management, maintenance, QA, production, OHS, risk, forklift management and project management, as well as foremen, building contractors, plant managers, union representatives, emergency services personnel, rehabilitation coordinators, occupational therapists, engineers and despatch managers.

Safety managers and operators should note that after Safety in Action, the next major safety exhibition will be the WA Safety Show, to be held 7 to 9 August 2012 at the Perth Convention & Exhibition Centre, followed by The Safety Show Sydney, Sydney Materials Handling and CleanScene on 23 to 25 October, 2012, again at Sydney Showground, Sydney Olympic Park.
