In this role you will have the opportunity to work as a safety leader within George Fisher Mine developing and implementing innovative solutions within a dynamic mining environment. This role plays an integral part in contributing to a Safe Work environment through promotion of a safe workplace culture, providing advice and guidance to the management team and operations to ensure the safety of all employees and contractors at George Fisher Mine. This position directly reports to the Supervisor – Health Safety and Systems.

The role is residential in Mount Isa on a Monday – Friday roster.

As a Safety Advisor in George Fisher Mine, you will build key relationships with the operational departments, ensuring involvement in incident investigations, risk assessments, workplace inspections and observations through the mine site. You will be responsible for maintaining the Health and Safety Management system including incident management, safety data analysis, safety reporting, completing and recording safety observations and inspections, maintenance of documentation to ensure they are up to date with best practice as well as ensuring compliance with Glencore Health and Safety policies and relevant legislation. You will provide expert advice to line managers and facilitate effective partnerships across the business to drive a positive safety culture.

The preferred candidate will have a minimum of 3 year’s underground mining industry experience, you will have a strong technical ability, combined with a natural ability to interact with others through excellent written and verbal communication skills. Your experience should include a significant contribution to the safety function in an underground mine, including a demonstrated ability to develop continuous improvement strategies within the health and safety environment, and a strong knowledge of Mining legislation. Experience using BSAFE or other Safety Management systems is desirable for this position.
