Leaders in Environmental Excellence Wanted For Golden Gecko Awards

Leaders in environmental excellence in mining have just three weeks to get their entries in for Western Australia’s annual Golden Gecko Awards.

Organisers of the event, the Department of Mines and Petroleum (DMP) say the awards are all about, “acknowledging the outstanding contributions recipients have made to the responsible development of Western Australia’s resources.”

Dr Phil Gorey Executive Director Environment at the DMP said judges would be looking for companies, organisations and individuals who displayed leading practice and innovation in environmental management.

“The Golden Gecko Awards allow companies to share their experiences with government, industry and the community,” Dr Gorey said.

“Receiving a Golden Gecko also helps to build the reputation of being a responsible corporate citizen with a responsible attitude to the environment.”

“Applications are assessed against the Award selection criteria, rather than against other entries, which creates a level playing field on which organisations of all sizes can compete evenly for a Golden Gecko Award,” Dr Gorey said.

Entries for this year’s Golden Gecko Awards close on 10 April 2015.
