Notices Issued For Unsafe Transportation of Dangerous Goods

The Department of Mines and Petroleum (DMP) have issued a number of notices to truck drivers in Western Australia who were found to be transporting dangerous good without the proper safety equipment.

Dangerous Goods Safety Officers from the DMP joined forces with WA Police, Main Roads, ComCare and the Department of Transport and WorkSafe. to conduct the joint traffic operation held last month on the Great Eastern Highway.

Principal Dangerous Goods Officer Peter Xanthis said the operation was successful in reinforcing the dangerous goods safety message.

“From a DMP perspective, we were focused on ensuring dangerous goods were being transported safely and securely,” Mr Xanthis said.

“A number of notices were issued as a part of this operation. This included notices regarding required safety equipment.

“In some cases safety equipment had expired or was completely missing.”

Mr Xanthis said a failure to identify the kind of dangerous goods being transported was also an area of concern.

“It is a case of reminding drivers and companies about their obligations and the importance of the required paperwork, placarding and personal protective equipment,” Mr Xanthis said.
