NT records 45% increase in work fatalities

With mining employing nearly a quarter of a million people in Australia, safety within the industry is as paramount as ever, particularly as the fatality rate is 70% higher than the national average rate.

Luckily, for most of Australia incidence rates have been declining steadily over the past five years accept in South Australia and the Northern Territory. The chart below highlights in fact an increase of 45% within the Northern Territory.

So what is happening in the Northern Territory and why has the claims rate increased?
