All proceeds from the sale of a new safety drill bit, designed by a Mackay mines services company, are being donated to CQ Rescue to help keep the RACQ Rescue Helicopter Service in the air.
Quarry Mining is donating the money made from their ‘Angel Bit’ in the Mackay region to the rescue service as part of a new partnership arrangement.
Used primarily in roof supports of coal mines, the ‘Angel Bit’ is a redesign of the traditional two-wing drill bit.
Speaking to the Daily Mercury, CEO of CQ Rescue, Mr Martin Cleland said he was heartened by the level of commitment and support shown by the company.
“Donating a portion of sales is a fresh approach to supporting the rescue helicopter during these uncertain financial times.”
Phil Warren from Quarry Mining told the Daily Mercury that safety should always be the priority.
“We are a community-minded organisation and are very proud to be able to support and partner with an organisation like RACQ CQ Rescue.
“They provide such a critical service to not only our mining families, but to our entire community.”
Quarry Mining Queensland manager Kevin Royal said the new drill bit had many benefits.
“Our company saw a real need to improve on the traditional two-wing bit following a series of injuries to miners involving mesh entanglement,” he said.
Quarry Mining has a similar sponsorship agreement with the Westpac Rescue Helicopter Service in New South Wales.
