Workers' Memorial Day Commemorated On April 28

Safe Work Australia is asking all workers to spare a thought for those who have died due to a workplace incident on Tuesday 28 April for World Day for Safety and Health at Work and Workers’ Memorial Day.

The day has been set aside to remember those who have died to workplace incidents and disease, and help prevent future deaths by raising the awareness of work health and safety.

According to SafeWork Australia, in 2014, 185* workers were killed while at work. The deaths of these workers would have affected not only family members, friends and colleagues but the broader community.

By raising the awareness of work health and safety we can help prevent workplace incidents and death.

What can you do?

To get involved, you could:

  • attend a memorial event in your state or territory
  • hold a one minute silence to remember those who have died
  • organise a morning/afternoon tea to talk about work health and safety
  • arrange for a safety expert to speak at your workplace, or
  • host a toolbox talk.

For more information or to download an electronic resource kit to help you promote activities in your workplace visit the Safe Work Australia website.
