Mount Isa Mines are looking for an occupational hygienist
Please note this position is based at Olympic Dam, operating on a 5/2 roster, with residential or FIFO options available.

About the role

The Superintendent Process Safety manages a group of highly qualified technical professionals in the process safety engineering discipline. You will be accountable for ensuring that work is performed accurately, as well as meeting or exceeding internal and external requirements and standards.

In this role you will:

  • Be first and foremost focused on creating a culture of care by being a visible safety leader, engaging, developing and coaching your team
  • Manage technical support in process safety as needed to ongoing operations and projects
  • Manage technical assurance through your team’s participation in the review of engineering deliverables, peer reviews/assists, and fundamental process safety processes
  • Provide functional oversight and guidance for Loss of Containment (LOC) material risk management with integration of engineering controls, process safety and asset integrity management
  • Review and updates procedures, Analysis & Improvement (A&I) and assurance processes (relevant to the discipline)
  • Ensure that BHP employees are developing the skills needed to advance their capabilities and that BHP training or job opportunities are identified that develop those skills
  • Supervises process safety training activities for Olympic Dam
  • Ensure that associated fundamental processes (e.g., Critical Control Owner, MOC, integrity of process equipment) are embedded and effective, also providing assistance to capital projects as required
  • Direct, personal problem solving, noting this is a supervisory role that at times requires individual technical contributions
  • Undertake performance management and career development of your team, including any associated administration
  • Network with process safety and equipment integrity engineering professionals internally and at relevant industrially recognised forums

About you:

  • Demonstrate the confidence to lead by example, hold yourself and others accountable and coach others in ‘Safety Leadership’
  • Degree qualifications in a relevant engineering discipline
  • Extensive technical knowledge of Process Safety & Equipment Integrity engineering requirements of major hazardous facilities, with the capability to correlate these disciplines for effective improvement in performance
  • Knowledge of risk management and critical controls processes
  • Understanding of all other engineering disciplines and how they are linked with process safety and equipment integrity management
  • Experience in an engineering supervisory role in an operational environment within chemical, petroleum, smelting or refining industries (preferred)
  • Knowledge of Australian Standards and regulatory requirements
  • Mentoring and coaching capability and experience
