On September 6, 1908, seven miners were entombed in 3000 ton of rock during a rockfall at Mount Morgan gold mine. Of the miners that were killed at Mt Morgan, five of them were from Gympie in Queensland. Five of the bodies were returned to Gympie for burial. The sixth was buried elsewhere.
There was a funeral procession from the railway station to the cemetery.Another five were killed on 4 Nov the same year. Newspapers at the time reported on the tragedy “The names of the seven men who have been imprisoned by the fallen rock are believed to be as follow: Leishman (married), Ryan, Guthrie, Sheppard, Gory,- Hillyard, Pehlke.
