A major project is one step closer to restarting production in northwest Queensland.
The State Department of Development, Infrastructure, Local Government and Planning recently granted both prescribed- and critical infrastructure- project status to 29Metals’ Capricorn Recovery and Extension (132km north of Mount Isa).
The declaration will help the proponent navigate through final stages of regulatory approval and fast-track the copper mine’s reopening. There is also potential to commercialise cobalt mineralisation. AMSJ can reveal the project will cost at least $151 million and create up to 400 full-time jobs.

“Operations at the mine have been significantly affected by rainfall and flooding across the region earlier this year. These declarations will help us restore the mine to full operations and enable us to implement significant improvements,” 29Metals managing director and CEO Peter Albert said in a public statement.
