Officials are examining circumstances surrounding a workplace fatality in Central Queensland’s Isaac region.

Workplace Health and Safety Queensland (WorkSafe) and the Queensland Police Service recently began investigating a heavy vehicle operator’s death at Leichhardt Accommodation Village in Moranbah, 194km southwest of Mackay.

Emergency responders were called to the complex after a Kinetic bus struck and killed the 62-year-old driver on 30 December 2022. No passengers were aboard.

“Preliminary investigations indicate the man was struck by the bus around 6:55pm. He was declared deceased at the scene,” a police spokesperson said according to News Limited.

“Forensic crash unit investigations are continuing and their report will be submitted to the coroner when complete.”

WorkSafe has already declared the fatality was non-suspicious.

“We are completely devastated and distressed by the tragedy that occurred. Our deepest sympathies go out to our team member’s family,” Kinetic company CEO Adam Begg said according to the media outlet.

“We are doing everything we can to support relevant authorities in investigating the cause of this incident. We thank emergency services for their support, and our thoughts are with our colleagues and everyone affected by this tragedy.”

The National Heavy Vehicle Regulator was reportedly briefed about the incident too.
