A fossil fuel operation purchased equipment to decrease incidents and carbon footprints.
Komatsu Australia recently supplied new machinery to Batchfire Resources’ Callide Coal Mine at Mount Murchison, 115km southwest of Gladstone.
The deal involved Komatsu delivering, constructing and testing a 400-tonne PC4000 excavator. The unit was customised to withstand “harsh” mining conditions in the Sunshine State.
“That meant various unique requirements like an oversized 23m3 [and 25.6 tonne] rock bucket,” Batchfire mobile maintenance superintendent Daniel Boal said in a public statement.
“What a lot of people do not realise is mining equipment is so large, in this case 400t, that much of it has to be transported to site in pieces,” mining and production manager Matthew Scales added.
The 1875 horsepower, 1800 revs per minute and 16-cylinder turbocharged diesel engine will operate around the clock for an estimated 400 hours a month. Approximately 5 million bank cubic metres of waste will be moved annually.
The PC4000 comes with a Mineware Argus 3.0 smart payload monitoring system, Komvision camera, Lidar safety system, Komtrax Plus remote monitoring data system, and advanced telemetry technology.
A 45-degree stairway, three on-board cameras with 360-degree views, penetration-proof safety glass, LED working and service lights plus remote monitoring has also been fitted.
“The machine delivery went faultlessly,” Komatsu mining regional manager Scott Harrington said.
