A fossil fuel company helped Central Queenslanders celebrate the festive season.
Bravus Mining and Resources recently sponsored Rockhampton’s Lights of Christmas spectacular. The week-long event has not been held since the pandemic began almost four years ago.
The 120-year-old St Joseph’s Catholic Cathedral building was lit with The Nutcracker, A Christmas Carol, The Night Before Christmas and other animated classics. Each display ran for about 30 minutes, from 7:30pm to 10pm each night until December 23.
The proponent hoped contributing up to $10,000 from its community partnership program brought joy after a challenging time.
“Many of the workers at Carmichael live here, their kids go to school here and their partners work in businesses around town. All of that drives our desire to get behind events and causes like the Lights of Christmas display that are important to our people and that bring our communities together,” Bravus chief operating officer Mick Crowe said in a public statement.
“The lights display truly does capture a spirit of Christmas and is such a beautiful event for everyone to enjoy,” Lights of Christmas committee chair Rob Alexander added.
More grants are available for not-for-profit businesses, groups and associations in central- and northern- Queensland from 1 January 2024.
“If your local group has a great community initiative we encourage you to jump on our website, check the criteria and put in an application,” Crowe said.
