A mining services company and multinational resources giant will force workers to be immunised against coronavirus.
Mineral Resources (MinRes) and BHP have confirmed every fly-in fly-out (FIFO) and residential worker must have the COVID-19 vaccine.
The requirement came after shortly the Western Australian Government imposed state-wide vaccine requirements for the industry.
The decision means no unvaccinated employee will be allowed to enter BHP work sites and offices starting from 31 January 2022. MinRes staff must take the first jab before December 1 and be fully vaccinated one month later.
“The science is clear that widespread vaccination saves lives,” BHP Minerals Australia president Edgar Basto said in a public statement.
“We have an obligation to ensure our people are safe when they are at work, and to support the health of the regional communities where we operate,” he added. “We [also] respect individual choice, and we will engage closely with our people as we move forward with this work.”
