Becoming the only cable coupler manufacturer in Australia to do so, AusProof has recently invested in its own on-site high voltage testing laboratory, allowing for greater research and development into current understanding and high voltage coupler solutions. In order to ensure they can continue to provide the industry with safe, high quality and innovative high voltage cable coupler solutions, and to further AusProof’s understanding not only of the ‘how’ of high voltage conductivity, but also the ‘why’, AusProof is proud to welcome Professor Jerry Walker to their Research and Development team.
With a wealth of knowledge and experience in the field of high voltage insulation systems obtained over several decades in the industry, Professor Walker is focused on the enhancement and innovation of high voltage products and features. Professor Walker’s career commenced as an apprentice electro-mechanical millwright, setting the foundation for a lifelong commitment to the industry. With an impressive 25-year tenure as an artisan and technician in various industrial settings, Professor Walker has honed his skills and accumulated invaluable practical knowledge.
Eager to delve deeper into his field, he obtained his BTech (Bacalareus Technologiae) degree, and subsequently joined the prestigious Vaal University of Technology as a lecturer. Driven by a passion for research and academic learning, Professor Walker further obtained his DTech (Doctoris Technologiae) degree, with his doctoral thesis, titled “Diagnostic Evaluation of Cross Linked Polyethylene (XLPE) Insulated Cables”, showcasing his dedication to advancing the understanding of high voltage insulation systems.
Founding Walmet Technologies (Pty) Ltd and Walmet Consultancy (Pty) Ltd in pursuit of new horizons, Professor Walker specialises in providing expert consultations, conducting investigations, and delivering training tailored to industry needs. An esteemed Fellow of the South African Institute of Electrical Engineers, Professor Walker’s special interest extends to Finite Element Simulations for steady state and transient analysis of non-standard buried cable installations, showcasing his commitment to cutting-edge research methodologies.
