North Australian Emergency Response Competition to be held this weekend in Darwin

Northern Australian Emergency Response CompetitionThe Northern Australian Emergency Response Competition is being held this weekend (9-10 August) at Charles Darwin University in Darwin, Northern Territory.

Teams competing this weekend include Glencore McArthur River Mining, BHP Billiton GEMCO, BHP Billiton Cannington Mine and Glencore Lady Loretta Mine.

The teams will be given a ‘call to response’ and will need to respond to a simulated emergency situation under the disciplines of Fire Fighting, BA Search and Rescue, Road Accident Rescue, First-Aid, Rescue from Heights and Hazardous Materials.

The aim of the competition is to recreate the pressures of a real emergency situation.  To do this, the organisers have kept the location of each scenario under wraps.

Emergency Response Scenarios will be held at the following times:

Saturday           9:00 am, 11:00 am, 1:15 pm and 3:15 pm
Sunday             7:45 am, 9:45 am, 11:45 pm and 2:00 pm

Competition Manager, Linda Young, invites all interested parties to attend.

“The more spectators we have, the more the pressure we add, so please bring your family along.  After all, how often is that you get to see what level of detail, planning, training and care is involved by Emergency Response Personnel when they are responding to an emergency situation?” Ms Young said.
