Not Just Dirt: Harmful Indoor Dust

Mideco Bat Vent

Mideco has been recognised for its leadership in industrial dust collection for over 60 years. It is an Australian-owned and run firm that delivers complete industrial dust collection solutions across a wide range of sectors to keep thousands of employees healthy and the environment safe. Mideco works closely with its clients to provide customised solutions that are tailored to their individual requirements. The main goal is to find solutions that benefit both the environment and the economy. Mideco has developed and refined its product to meet market demands and achieve its goal of protecting people on the job. The company became interested in preventing the collective workforce and those close to them from contracting predictable and preventable diseases.

All airborne dust is hazardous to one’s health. Unfortunately, the battle against dust does not end on construction sites. Dust in the air continues to circulate and easily infiltrates administrative offices, booths, control rooms, and other site-based structures, posing a health risk to everyone in the vicinity and causing significant headaches for managers who are constantly attempting to keep all their employees safe. Mideco lives up to the slogan “your partner in environment technology” because they care about the health and safety of individuals working in dusty industries all over the world. Mideco, on the other hand, has the correct solution to combat the dangerous indoor air by introducing the Bat Vent, which cleanses and filters air before it reaches the site’s enclosures. This air purifying system is preceded by our other exceptionally successful dust collection devices, such as the Bat®Booth (a personnel de-dusting system) and the Burnley®Baffles (a bulk handling dust suppression system). This air purifying system is preceded by our other exceptionally successful dust collection devices, such as the Bat® Booth (a personnel de-dusting system) and the Burnley® Baffles (a bulk handling dust suppression system).

The Bat Vent protects workers who are not immediately exposed to the prime source of dust but work nearby on a regular basis. Employees in administrative buildings near quarries in Australia have got silicosis in recent months due to a lack of awareness about the potential health risks. Many of us commit a substantial part of our lives to our employment, and Mideco understands that regardless of industry, everyone’s health and safety is the priority. The Bat Vent’s technology follows three steps. The air enters the Bat Vent through vents and then through a pre-filter. This pre-filter will save the HEPA filter from becoming blocked too soon owing to excessive dust pollution. After passing through the pre-filter, the air is channelled to the HEPA filter, which eliminates dust particles from the airstream. Finally, air is extracted from the filtering chamber and forced into the room at a predetermined volume and pressure by the fan. Within the room, a pressure monitor checks the air pressure and controls the fan speed with a variable speed driver. If the room temperature is too low, the fan will speed up; if the room temperature is too high, the fan will slow down. When this process is finished, the air will leave through an air outlet. The Bat Vent has been certified by the Queensland Government Recognised Standard 20.

Quarry and mine workers face dynamic working conditions, including highly fluctuating dust sources in environmental enclosures. As enclosures create a micro-environment, workers may be more sheltered or more exposed to respirable dust and other contaminants. Filtration and pressurisation systems are the primary engineering controls for decreasing workers’ exposure to airborne dust in enclosed cabins, operator booths, and control rooms. The Bat Vent comes with a fan, a HEPA filter, numerous installation solutions, a pre-filter to protect the HEPA from harsh situations, and a control module. It protects indoor workers who may be unaware that they are being exposed to harmful dust.

Mideco aims to make a good social impact in addition to offering services and products to current and prospective consumers.
