Company fined $10k over WA mining incident

A mining services company has been fined $10,000 following an incident at Mineral Resources’ Iron Valley Mine in WA’s Pilbara region.

Westdrill pleaded guilty in Perth Magistrates Court to two charges of breaching the Mines Safety and Inspection Regulations for an incident that occurred in February 2015.

At the time, a Mobile Manufacturing Unit truck was being driven down a ramp when the operator lost control and steered into a window. No one was injured and no damage was caused.

The Department of Mines and Petroleum found the driver was a trainee MMU operator working unsupervised and that repairs completed a month earlier had been done by an unqualified worker.
