Motorola Solutions launches new radio for natural resource sectors

Motorola Solutions

A global pandemic, ever-increasing volumes of data to manage and greater demand to do more with limited resources – the world has never been more complex for the natural resources sector.

Siloed systems and devices that don’t communicate with each other add to the complexity. To manage their daily tasks efficiently, frontline workers need mission-critical technology that provides an intuitive experience as well as flexible tools that enable them to connect seamlessly with a broader ecosystem of technologies.

Motorola Solutions is launching its next-generation Terrestrial Trunked Radio (TETRA) device: the smart and powerful MXP600, to meet the needs of the transportation sector today and well into the future. The lightweight yet highly rugged radio takes the proven capabilities of mission-critical voice communication to new levels and can collaborate with other solutions.

“Frontline personnel operate in high-pressure environments. In critical moments, their radio provides a constant lifeline and instant communication everywhere”, said Katja Millard, Senior Director Devices at Motorola Solutions. Our customers asked us to develop a solution that provides best-in-class, secure and reliable communication, a lightweight design with the convenience of over the air programming and easy pairing and control via smartphones.”

According to KPMG’s Australian Mining Risk Forecast 2020/2021, COVID–19 has caused profound changes to the mining sector’s immediate planning, decision making, and risk mitigation actions.

Martin Chappell, Motorola Solutions’ general manager for Minerals and Energy, Australia and New Zealand, said the natural resource sector will continue to invest in technology and tools to maximise productivity without compromising the safety of frontline personnel.

“Safety for workers and the wider community remains the number one priority for these sectors which provide essential services for our economy,” Chappell said.

“In notoriously rugged and remote mining environments, mission critical radio provides the most robust, reliable and secure way for frontline teams to communicate.

“Our initial testing of the MPX600 within the mining sector has found technology users really value the radio’s highly advanced audio features as well as its lightweight yet durable design.

“In a fast changing environment, mining organisations will continue to invest in advanced land mobile radio technologies to protect safety across their entire operations while also adopting new solutions to enable greater collaboration and flexibility.”

“It’s all about simplifying yet elevating key features of mission-critical communications,” Chappell said.
