Pike River Team undertakes training on Crown Technologies venturi system

The Pike River recovery team have continued their preparations for re-entry to recover the bodies of 29 miners trapped in an explosion in 2010. This week a number of team members undertook training in the use of a venturi.

Dave Anderson of Crown Technologies in Newcastle provided venturi training to site personnel. The venturi is likely to be used during the gas extraction phase of the recovery. The site also received a visit from the WorkSafe Chief Inspector Extractives & High Hazards Unit General Manager.

The attached video shows the first component of emergency remote controlled doors at the site in late 2018. The Pike River Recovery Team is continuing work to complete the installation in the mine portal.
