Queensland mines department staff get bonus

Some Queensland mines inspectors and other mines department officials were rewarded with a $1250 bonus by the Queensland Government in the midst of the COVID-19 lockdown according to information released today.

The deal paid $2.934 million paid to 2,265 full-time Natural Resources & Mines Government employees according to data released. The payments were reportedly offered as part of a ‘sign on” agreement for public servants.

More than $260 million was paid out to eligible public sector employees across the whole of Queensland government.

The bonus payments were part of enterprise agreement negotiations and were taxed at applicable rates.

A Government spokesperson told AMSJ “Only Labor will support frontline workers in Queensland.”
