WA have announced work health and safety award winners

Six community partnerships and four conservation and rehabilitation resource sector projects from across the State are in the running for the Department of Mines, Industry Regulation and Safety’s 2020 Resources Sector Awards for Excellence.

The projects shortlisted for the Community Partnership Resources Sector Award all aim to provide a long-lasting legacy in local communities in areas ranging from education, health services, social investment, and conservation and restoration.

They will be judged against three criteria: leadership and innovation in establishing a partnership; benefits of the collaboration; and a demonstrated commitment to providing enduring and sustainable outcomes.

The Golden Gecko Award for Environmental Excellence shortlist include conservation and rehabilitation projects offshore and in the Pilbara. These will be judged on their innovative solutions, commitment to environmental excellence, social responsibility and community engagement.

Deputy Director-General for DMIRS, Dr Phil Gorey said the Awards aimed to demonstrate and acknowledge that Western Australia’s nationally significant industry is not only sustainable but also achieves the environmental and community balance expected of the industry today.

“Each community and region in our State is unique and these awards showcase the benefits and achievements of community partnerships and commitment to excellent environmental outcomes,” he said.

“It is very encouraging to see the resources industry investing in regions where they operate, particularly in initiatives that are led by the local community.

The winners will be announced at the department’s Resources Sector Awards for Excellence in October 2020.
