Safe Work Month ends but safety must be a priority all year

While National Safe Work Month 2015 and the Virtual Seminar Series have come to an end, Safe Work Australia’s chief executive officer Michelle Baxter has urged individuals and workplaces to continue to keep work health and safety top of mind throughout the year.

The theme this year was ‘Be safe. Be healthy. Because…’ – deliberately left open so individuals and workplaces could add their own reasons for being safe and healthy at work.

“Workplaces need to continue to keep their reasons in mind to ensure work health and safety is not forgotten,” Ms Baxter said.

“While National Safe Work Month puts a strong focus on work health and safety during October, it must remain a priority all year round. I encourage you to practice what you learn during National Safe Work Month, every month of the year. To help with this, all seminars from the VSS remain on the Safe Work Australia website and YouTube channel as a free and lasting resource.

“Thank you to everyone who took part in National Safe Work Month and the VSS. If you haven’t already, I encourage you to enter the Workplace Participation Reward. Tell us what you have done to raise awareness during October for your chance to win.”

Explore the National Safe Work Month web page for more information about how to enter the Workplace Participation Reward, safety stories received to date, links to the VSS and additional Safety Ambassador videos. Entry into the 2015 Workplace Participation Reward is open until 5 pm (EST), November 4, 2015.
