Stop mosquitoes breeding on the mine site

mossieWorkplace Health and Safety Queensland calls on workplaces to do their share in helping stop mosquitoes breeding to protect workers from mosquito bites.

Mosquitoes lay eggs in containers that hold water in buildings and work yards, making workplaces their perfect breeding grounds. Because of this, workers are at risk of getting mosquito-borne diseases like dengue fever, Ross River virus and Barmah Forest virus.

Workplace Health and Safety Queensland encourage employers to check workplaces at least once a week for any items that can hold water.

Preventing mosquito-borne diseases is easy:

  • Tip out any water in things like plastic containers, tarpaulins, buckets, fallen palm fronds and pot plant bases.
  • Store anything that can hold water undercover or in a dry place, including work equipment, surplus materials or trailers, and keep bins covered.
  • Throw out any rubbish lying around like unused or empty containers, tyres, and other waste materials.
