Warning over fake high risk work licences

Western Australia’s resources safety regulator has sent a strong warning to mining companies over fake licences for ‘high risk’ work, after two Karratha mining workers mistakenly held fake documentation.

Department of Mines and Petroleum Resources Safety Executive Director Simon Ridge urged companies and contractors to check employees’ high risk work (HRW) licences after the rigging workers discovered the issue when attempting to update what they believed was legitimate New South Wales’ documentation.

“We do not want a situation where workers are being issued fake licences by fraudulent people or organisations, as these workers may not have been properly trained and assessed as competent.” Mr Ridge said.

“As such, there is the potential these unsuspecting workers could put not only their lives, but that of others, in danger.

“That is why it is absolutely crucial that employers, assessors and trainers verify all HRW licences presented onsite.”

Mr Ridge stated that DMP’s 50 mines inspector would pay particular attention to the validity of HRW licences during site visits.

“False documentation will not be tolerated,” he said.

Fake licences can be reported to DMP on 9358 8079.
