World renowned human error expert explores human factors in oil and gas incidents

With safety professionals’ understanding of accidents, risk and safety changing, human error is no longer seen as a cause, but as a symptom. In recognising the exciting possibilities of systems thinking for accident analysis and organizational improvement, more and more organisations are shifting from reliability to resilience.

For many oil and gas professionals – who are often very technically and mechanically minded – human factors seem like an abstract and distant concept. A concept that is difficult to grasp and steeped in complex, academic language. However, human factors are often the driving force behind most incidents in the sector, and better understanding them is critical for those who truly wish to reduce workplace incidents.

Sidney Dekker has gained worldwide acclaim for his groundbreaking work surrounding human error and safety. He is the author of numerous publications and his views on human error have been helping organisations across industries achieve results. As well as this, he has an engaging and provocative presentation style that genuinely gets his audience interested and thinking about how they can improve their operations.

Sidney will be delivering a keynote presentation at the 2nd annual Safety in Oil and Gas 2016 conference, to be held in Brisbane from 1-3 March 2016. He will give his insights into human factors for a new era – a digital era – and will empower attendees to see and debate the various viewpoints on difficult topics in safety and human factors.
