Worker killed at WA gold mine

A worker has been killed at a Western Australian gold mine this morning.

The Department of Mines and Petroleum have confirmed the death, which occurred at the Central Norseman Gold Mine.

According to reports, paramedics ate tended the mine at 10.50am and took the worker, in his 60s, to hospital where he died.

DMP safety director Andrew Chaplyn said the worker’s injuries were caused by the “collapse of a bridge from the top of a settling tank”.

“Two Kalgoorlie-based Mines safety inspectors were on site carrying out a scheduled inspection at the time of the incident and another two inspectors from Perth have been mobilised to investigate,” he said.

“The department offers its sincere condolences to the worker’s family, friends and co-workers.”
