Chilean mines rescue workers have located the body of a missing miner. In a statement issued by the Mining Ministry of Chile, Mining minister Baldo Prokurica reported that this morning the lifeless body of Salomón Veinzaga was found, the last worker who was trapped in the Directorio 8 mine in the Tocopilla district, Antofagasta region.
“After a lot of work and a great effort from the rescuers, today the body of the last deceased miner has been found. He was in the place where the search had always been carried out and where the body of his son (Lenin Veinzaga) was also found, “said the secretary of state.
Minister Prokurica lamented that the result of the accident was two deaths persons and explained that, according to information provided by Leonardo Condori, the only survivor of the rescue, they probably died at the time of the collapse on Thursday, June 13.

He added that they are initiating all of the respective procedures with the legal medical service to remove the body of the missing miner from the mine.
The mining minister added that “President Sebastián Piñera has asked me to deliver condolences to the families and also the gratitude to the different institutions and rescue groups that participated from the very start minute until now, without rest, giving 100% to fulfill his request to rescue these people.”
During the mines rescue works for the missing miner, there was also essential support from the staff of Codelco, Enami, small miners in the area, firemen and police.
