Collision management guideline released by NSW Mine Safety

NSW Mine Safety yesterday released a guideline for selecting and implementing collision management systems in mines.

The guideline was developed through a working group of representatives from underground coal and metalliferous mines, unions, equipment suppliers, NSW Mine Safety and the Department of Natural Resources and Mines Qld.

The guideline has been written  for coal mines, metalliferous mines and quarries and its purpose is to help miners define, select and implement a suitable collision management system and to provide consistency across the mining industry. It may also be used to review a system in operation.

MDG 2007 Guideline for the selection and implementation of collision management systems for mining is now available on the Mine Safety website.

MDG 2007 is not a Code of Practice and at the date of issue no WHS Code of Practice covering its subject material has been developed for the NSW mining industry.

A number of Codes of Practice are being developed in consultation with industry, unions and other mining jurisdictions and as they are developed any corresponding NSW guidelines will be revised accordingly.
