Flying eyebolt causes head injury

RCQ_17-07-2013_ROP_05_EME160713bolt1_t460Two men are lucky to be alive after a 2kg eyebolt dislodged from a passing truck, smashed through their vehicle’s windscreen, and struck the driver in the head.

According to the CQ News the men were travelling from Emerald to Springsure in Central Queensland when the incident occurred.

Springsure Senior Constable Adam Allanson told the CQ News that the incident could have been worse if the driver had not remained calm.

“Being that both of the vehicles were travelling at 100kmh, the 2kg eyebolt, which we believe has dislodged from the bullbar of the truck, would have collided with the car at an impact rate of 200kmh,” Snr Const Allanson said.

“Being calm when it all goes pear-shaped is not something we can control, but what we can do prior to that is remain attentive and have both hands on the wheel,” he said.

The man was treated at Springsure Hospital and Workplace Health and Safety as well as the police are investigating the incident.
