Jeebropilly Mine: Medium Employer of the Year

Jeebropilly Mine’s prioritised focus of its workforce’s health and safety is paying dividends with the mine site’s efforts being recognised by the State Government.

Jeebropilly Mine has been named Medium Employer of the Year at the Metropolitan Regional Finals of the Queensland Training Awards held in Brisbane.

The Queensland Training Awards have celebrated the state’s top training achievers for the past 55 years.

Across 11 categories, the awards recognise individuals and organisations that strive for and have achieved success, best practice and innovation in vocational education and training (VET).

The awards showcase all that’s great about VET in Queensland, with categories for apprentices, trainees, vocational students, teachers and trainers, as well as training providers and employers.

Jeebropilly Mine has almost 100 full time employees and contractors on site around the clock, keeping the workforce safe is the mine’s main focus. The company’s behavioural and safety leadership programs ensure safety is a priority and always front of mind, while boosting productivity performance.

Jeebropilly Health Safety and Training Co-ordinator, Brendan Ryan, said the aim is for employees to always return to their loved ones at the end of each shift, unharmed.

“Our people are one of our greatest assets,” Brendan said. “Because on a day-to-day basis it is our people who influence our success. Health and safety is and will remain paramount to everything we do.”

Brendan said training also played a vital role in preparing employees for life after they move on from Jeebropilly.

“We encourage all employees to take advantage of training that will further their prospects,” Brendan said. “The training we offer our employees is designed to keep them safe and compliant at the mine site but the skills can be used across all aspects of their life. These transferrable skills will allow our employees to move into workplaces outside of the resources sector.

“Safety focused skills in heavy machinery maintenance, fork lift operation, first aid and firefighting, risk management and general communication will give our workers great opportunities in the future.
