Mental illness costs Australian workplaces around $11 billion in lost productivity every year, according to the organisers of a major safety event being held in Brisbane.
What employers can do to address the challenges of mental health in their workforce will be one of the key topics of the Safety in Action expo and seminar being held at the Brisbane Convention and Exhibition Centre from the 22nd to the 23rd of April.
Representatives from beyondblue and AccessEAP will be at the seminar to speak on how business leaders can create mentally healthy workplaces and why workplace wellness is good for a business’s bottom line.
John Wilson from Informa, organisers of this year’s event, said also on hand will be safety experts who will share new research, discuss regulatory compliance issues and expand on technological innovations – including a new mobile App that empowers staff to log incidents.
“Every year, work related injuries cost the Australian economy an estimated $60 billion or more and Safety in Action will provide people with the knowledge, tools and resources to minimise the economic burden of
work related injuries in the future,” Mr Wilson said.
