An Asia-headquartered conglomerate postponed work at one operation after an employee passed away.

CITIC Pacific Mining confirmed the worker died at the Sino Iron Mine, about 90km southwest of Karratha. The 52-year-old had suffered a fatal fall while performing maintenance at a coarse ore stockpile shed within the concentrator precinct.

“With great sadness, we confirm that a 52-year-old maintenance worker has passed away, as a result of injuries sustained from an apparent fall at site,” the company said in a public statement. “The man was treated by paramedics at the scene and transported to Karratha Health Campus in a critical condition.”

The Western Australian Police Force and State Department of Mines, Industry Regulation and Safety fully investigated the incident.

“We extend our deep condolences to the man’s family and workmates, and will work closely with investigators to determine the cause of this tragedy,” the proponent said.
