Mineworker tells of explosion in coal mine

A former mine manager has told of how he survived a coal mine explosion at the Sirius Creek Mine in 1969.

Col King talks with the Mine Safety Institute’s Mark Parcell regarding what it was like to be in the midst of a methane explosion.

Col suffered burns on his hands and his face during the explosion at the Sirius Creek No. 1 Mine near Blackwater in Queensland.

Col says the lesson is that miners must learn more about their environment. A lesson that is relevant today as it was 50 years ago.
