New Online Safety Reporting System For South Australian Miners

From 1 January next year (2015) mine operators in South Australia will be required to submit incident reports and quarterly work health and safety reports to the new online National Mine Safety Database (NMSD).

A login is required to access the database and this can be obtained by contacting SafeWork SA’s Help Centre 1300 365 255.

NMSD reporting is in addition to notifiable incident reporting, as required by the Work Health and Safety Act 2012 (SA) and the Work Health and Safety Regulations 2012 (SA). Reporting these incidents needs to continue via the notifiable incident form available online atwww.safework.sa.gov.au or by calling SafeWork SA’s Help Centre.

The regular upload of information by mine operators to the national system provides regulators across Australia with up-to-date information about mine safety to identify work health and safety incident trends and emerging issues.

To help affected parties understand their legal responsibilities, SafeWork SA is hosting an information session on how to use the NMSD:

Location: Theatrette, State Administration Centre, 200 Victoria Square, Adelaide
Date: Thursday 11 December 2014
Time: 3pm – 5pm

Please register to attend online at www.safework.sa.gov.au/mines or by calling Anne Knight on telephone 8303 0258.

Additional sessions in regional South Australia will follow in early-2015. Information sessions and training can also be arranged for specific sites on request.

For further information about the NMSD, information sessions or mine operator responsibilities please visit www.safework.sa.gov.au/mines or SafeWork SA’s Help Centre 1300 365 255.
