CFMEU angered over gender quota on safety committee

An investigation by Brisbane’s Courier-Mail has revealed that the CFMEU slammed the Queensland Government over its’ gender quotas on the State’s Mining Industry Health and Safety Committee.

According to the report in the Courier-Mail (see below), the CFMEU’s top Mining Health and Safety Representative, Greg Dalliston wrote to the Queensland Mines Minister Anthony Lynham to advise of the union’s stance on the gender quota issue.

The State’s Opposition Leader, Deb Frecklington said that for a mine safety committee not to meet because of gender representation issues shows that priorities are all wrong. These documents reveal a six-month delay in the appointment process, dating back to December 2018, which the Queensland Premier was fully aware of.

“Workers safety should always be the number one priority,” she said.

AMSJ spoke with Deb Frecklington earlier this year on mine safety.
