New South Wales’ mining sector now has five new mining codes of practice.
Developed under the National Mine Safety Framework in consultation with industry, unions and the Tristate Legislation Working Group, the codes were released for public comment in May 2014.
Revisions were made to the codes to reflect come issues raised from public comment and to ensure compliance with the Work Health and Safety(Mines) Regulation 2014.
NSW Minister for Resources and Energy, Anthony Roberts, has now approved the five new codes and NSW Mine Safety has made them freely available on their website.
The new codes have been designed as “a practical guide to achieving the standards of health, safety and welfare required under work, health and safety laws in NSW.”
The new codes cover:
Safety management systems in mines
Emergency planning for mines
Inundation and inrush hazard management
Strata control in underground coal mines
Roadway dust analysis in underground coal mines
