A quarry wall collapse in a Belgium quarry has left a Caterpillar 992K loader destroyed and an operator hospitalised.
The quarry incident reportedly occurred at the Sagrex Lemay quarry in Antoing, Belgium on a night shift at 1 am on December 10, 2019. It followed a blast earlier in the day.

According to information available, the operator was trapped in the cabin before fire and rescue crews from nearby Tournai were able to free him. He was transported to the hospital and is believed to have remained in a stable condition.
The high potential incident demonstrates the need to ensure standoff zones are in place adjacent walls in quarries and further validates the importance of ROPS Structures to protect workers from injury.
